8 Days Tanzania Wildlife and Cultural Safari

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, you will be welcomed by a Quest Horizon Safaris representative.

After assistance with your luggage, transfer privately to your accommodation in Arusha.

Arusha lies near the foot of Mount Meru and serves as the main gateway to Northern Tanzania’s safari destinations.

Depending on your arrival time, spend the remainder of the day resting after your journey.

You may enjoy your accommodation’s gardens and facilities or arrange an optional activity such as a coffee-estate visit, local market tour or guided city experience.

Before departure, your guide or representative will provide a detailed safari briefing covering the route, driving times, cultural etiquette, park regulations, luggage requirements and flight arrangements.

Dinner and overnight in Arusha.

After breakfast, depart Karatu and travel toward Lake Eyasi.

The route descends through rural landscapes, small farming communities and dry woodland toward the Eyasi Basin.

Lake Eyasi is a shallow seasonal soda lake bordered by escarpments, dry bushland and agricultural settlements.

Upon arrival, meet a local cultural guide who will help facilitate respectful communication with the communities.

Visit a Datoga homestead and learn about the community’s pastoral traditions, household organization and metalworking skills.

The Datoga are traditionally cattle keepers and are recognized for their craftsmanship. Depending on the day’s activities, guests may observe blacksmiths producing tools, arrowheads, bracelets or household objects using locally available and recycled metals.

The encounter may also include discussions about family life, livestock, food preparation, clothing and the challenges of maintaining traditional practices in a changing environment.

Photography should always be requested through the local guide before taking pictures of individuals or homes.

After the visit, continue to your accommodation near Lake Eyasi.

Spend the late afternoon relaxing, walking near the lodge or observing the surrounding landscape.

Dinner and overnight near Lake Eyasi.

Depart early after breakfast and travel into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Continue toward the crater rim, stopping at a viewpoint when weather conditions allow.

Descend approximately 600 metres to the crater floor for an extended private game drive.

Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and supports one of Africa’s greatest concentrations of large mammals.

The crater’s grasslands, forest, freshwater springs, wetlands and alkaline lake provide habitat for lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, spotted hyenas and numerous antelope species.

It is also one of Tanzania’s better locations for observing the endangered black rhinoceros, although sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Explore the open plains, Lerai Forest, freshwater marshes and the shores of Lake Magadi.

Enjoy a picnic lunch at a designated site on the crater floor.

Continue the game drive in the afternoon before ascending the crater wall and returning to Karatu or an accommodation property in the Ngorongoro Highlands.

After breakfast, depart the highlands and travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area toward Serengeti National Park.

The journey passes volcanic landscapes, open grazing areas and Maasai communities living within the conservation area.

An optional visit to Olduvai Gorge Museum may be arranged for guests interested in archaeology, geology and human origins.

Continue toward Serengeti as the landscape opens into broad plains.

Enter Serengeti National Park and begin an en-route game drive toward the central region.

Central Serengeti is one of Tanzania’s most reliable year-round wildlife areas. Permanent water sources around the Seronera River support resident animals and predators in every season.

Search for lions near granite kopjes, leopards resting in riverine trees and cheetahs scanning the open grasslands.

Elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest and spotted hyenas may also be encountered.

Arrive at your lodge or tented camp during the late afternoon or early evening.

Morning Serengeti Safari and Flight to Arusha

Begin the final day with an early morning game drive.

The cooler hours provide another opportunity to observe predators, elephants and plains animals before leaving Serengeti.

Depending on the scheduled flight time, return to camp for breakfast or continue with a picnic meal.

Transfer to the nearest operational airstrip and board a scheduled light-aircraft flight to Arusha.

The flight offers aerial views of the Serengeti plains, Ngorongoro Highlands and Northern Tanzania’s varied landscapes.
