Kilimanjaro; the largest mountain of Africa, sitting at 5,895m/ 19,341 feet above the sea level is unique and unrivalled in its size and beauty. Each year this majestic mountain attracts more than 30,000 trekkers out of which around 50% trial to touch the summit became successful. On the way to the summit, the climbers usually meet 5 climates namely Cultivation, forest, Moorland, High Desert and summit or glacial zone.

To reach the peak the of Mount Kilimanjaro, offers 6 routes all together which vary not only in length but also in cost and scenery. Selecting the route to Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro can be the most important factor to meet your success.

The Kilimanjaro Routes:

The Marangu Route: TheMarangu Route is the most popular route named “coca-cola route” because of the easy climbing pathway and the only route providing hut accommodation for the trekkers.  

The Machame Route: The Machame Route usually referred to as the “Whisky Route” is not technically difficult however a bit strenuous. But this route involves a lot of energy and preparation. As for scenery, the Machame route is absolutely spectacular.

The Rongai Route: The six-day version of the RongaiRoute is one of the popular easy climb routes with an excellent success rate. It’s slightly more expensive but the route offers a great scenic view on the way to the summit.

The Shira Route:The Shira Route approaches Kilimanjaro from the west and then joins the Machame route hence it’s more like Machame route and the route has also a high success rate. The first on the Shira route is different from other routes as it offers a 4 wheeler drive.

The Lemosho Route:The Lemosho Route approaches Kilimanjaro from the west and then joins the Machame route hence like Shira,Lemosho also offers the same view as Machame route. The first two days on the Lemosho route take you through the beautiful and very remote rainforest.

The Umbwe Route:Umbwe Route is a direct route very steep, very tough, and in parts a very exposed route. Due to being one of the direct routes, this route is much demanded however one of the toughest routes too. So don’t try to climb this route unless you are not an experienced trekker.
