Arusha to Tarangire National Park and Karatu

After breakfast, meet your professional safari guide and depart for Tarangire National Park.

The journey passes through small towns, agricultural areas, open countryside and Maasai grazing lands.

Upon entering Tarangire, begin your first private game drive.

The park is famous for its large elephant population, ancient baobab trees and the Tarangire River.

Explore open grasslands, acacia woodland, river valleys and seasonal wetlands.

Elephants may be seen feeding beneath baobabs, travelling in extended family groups or gathering near water sources.

Other possible wildlife includes:

 • Lions
 • Leopards
 • Giraffes
 • Buffaloes
 • Zebras
 • Wildebeest
 • Impalas
 • Waterbucks
 • Warthogs
 • Spotted hyenas

Ngorongoro Crater Safari and Central Serengeti

Depart early after breakfast and travel into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Continue to the crater rim and descend approximately 600 metres to the crater floor.

Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and supports one of Africa’s greatest concentrations of large mammals.

Its grasslands, forest, freshwater springs, wetlands and alkaline lake provide habitat for lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, spotted hyenas and numerous antelope species.

The crater is also one of Tanzania’s better areas for searching for the endangered black rhinoceros, although sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Explore the open plains, Lerai Forest, freshwater marshes and Lake Magadi.

Enjoy a picnic lunch at a designated location on the crater floor.

In the early afternoon, ascend the crater wall and continue through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area toward Serengeti National Park.

Enter the park and begin an en-route game drive toward Central Serengeti.

Arrive at your lodge or tented camp in the late afternoon or early evening.

Important Operational Note

This is the longest overland day of the itinerary.
Guests depart early, complete the crater safari during the morning and continue to Central Serengeti in the afternoon.
Travelers who prefer a slower pace may add an additional night in the Ngorongoro Highlands.

4
Full-Day Central Serengeti Safari

Spend a complete day exploring Central Serengeti.

The Seronera region is one of Tanzania’s strongest year-round wildlife areas because of its permanent water sources and varied habitats.

Begin with an early morning game drive when predators are often active and temperatures remain cooler.

Search for lions around granite kopjes, leopards resting in riverine trees and cheetahs scanning the open plains.

Other possible wildlife includes:

 • Elephants
 • Giraffes
 • Buffaloes
 • Zebras
 • Wildebeest
 • Spotted hyenas
 • Jackals
 • Gazelles
 • Warthogs
 • Numerous bird species

Your private guide will adapt the route according to current sightings, seasonal conditions and your interests.

Choose between a full-day safari with picnic lunch or separate morning and afternoon game drives with a midday break.

Return to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.

5
Morning Serengeti Safari and Flight to Zanzibar

Begin the day with an early morning game drive.

The cooler hours provide another opportunity to observe predators and other wildlife before leaving Serengeti.

Depending on the scheduled flight time, return to camp for breakfast or continue with a picnic meal.

Transfer to the nearest operational airstrip and board a scheduled light-aircraft flight to Zanzibar.

The service may operate directly or via another Tanzanian airstrip or airport, depending on the date and airline schedule.

The flight offers aerial views of the Serengeti plains, Ngorongoro Highlands and changing landscapes of Tanzania.

Upon arrival at Zanzibar International Airport, you will be welcomed by a local representative and transferred privately to your selected beach accommodation.

Check in and spend the remainder of the day relaxing beside the Indian Ocean.

Dinner and overnight on Zanzibar.
