Arrival in Arusha

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, you will be welcomed by a Quest Horizon Safaris representative.

After assistance with your luggage, transfer privately to your accommodation in Arusha.

Arusha is located near the foot of Mount Meru and serves as the main gateway to Tanzania’s Northern Safari Circuit.

Depending on your arrival time, spend the remainder of the day relaxing after your journey. You may enjoy the gardens and facilities of your accommodation or arrange an optional local activity.

Before departure, your guide or representative will provide a safari briefing covering the route, expected driving times, park regulations, luggage requirements and flight arrangements.

Arusha to Tarangire National Park and Karatu

After breakfast, meet your professional safari guide and depart for Tarangire National Park.

The journey passes through rural communities, farmland, small towns and Maasai grazing areas.

Upon entering Tarangire, begin a private game drive through open grasslands, acacia woodland, seasonal wetlands and the Tarangire River Valley.

The park is famous for its large elephant population. Herds may be seen moving beneath ancient baobab trees, feeding near the river or gathering at water sources during the dry season.

Other possible wildlife includes lions, leopards, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, impalas, waterbucks and warthogs.

Tarangire is also one of Northern Tanzania’s best birdwatching destinations, with more than 500 recorded species.

Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park and continue your afternoon game drive.

Later, leave Tarangire and travel toward Karatu or the Ngorongoro Highlands for dinner and overnight.

3
Ngorongoro Crater Safari and Central Serengeti

Depart early after breakfast and travel into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Continue to the crater rim and descend approximately 600 metres to the crater floor for a game drive.

The Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and supports an extraordinary concentration of wildlife.

Its grasslands, forests, freshwater springs, wetlands and alkaline lake provide habitat for lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, spotted hyenas and several antelope species.

The crater is also one of Tanzania’s better locations for observing the endangered black rhinoceros, although sightings remain unpredictable and cannot be guaranteed.

Explore the open plains, Lerai Forest and the shores of Lake Magadi before enjoying a picnic lunch inside the crater.

In the early afternoon, ascend from the crater and continue through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area toward Serengeti National Park.

Enter Serengeti and begin an en-route game drive toward the central region.

Arrive at your lodge or tented camp in the late afternoon or early evening.

Important Operational Note

This is the longest day of the itinerary.
Guests depart early from Karatu, complete the crater safari during the morning and continue directly to Central Serengeti in the afternoon.
The program is practical but requires an early start and efficient timing. Travelers who prefer a slower pace should add one additional night in the Ngorongoro Highlands.

4
Full-Day Central Serengeti Safari

Spend a complete day exploring Central Serengeti.

The central region is one of Tanzania’s most reliable year-round wildlife areas. Permanent water sources around the Seronera River support resident animals throughout the year.

Begin with an early morning game drive when predators are often active and temperatures remain cooler.

Search for lions around granite kopjes, leopards resting in riverine trees and cheetahs scanning the open plains.

Elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, spotted hyenas and numerous antelope species may also be encountered.

Your guide will choose the day’s route according to recent sightings, seasonal conditions and your individual interests.

Guests may choose a full-day safari with picnic lunch or separate morning and afternoon game drives with a midday break at camp.

Return to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.

5
Central Serengeti Safari

Enjoy another full day in Central Serengeti.

The additional day allows your guide to explore areas not visited previously and respond to current wildlife activity.

The day may include open grasslands, acacia woodland, river valleys, seasonal watercourses and rocky outcrops.

Lions may be seen resting or hunting across the plains, while leopards are often associated with riverine trees. Cheetahs favor open areas where they can scan for gazelles.

Spotted hyenas, jackals and vultures may be found around predator territories and recent kills.

Depending on the season, migration herds may also pass through parts of Central Serengeti. However, the region remains rewarding even when the main migration is located elsewhere.

Photographers may spend longer periods at selected sightings, while families and first-time safari travelers may prefer a varied route covering several habitats.

Return to your accommodation for your final evening in Serengeti.

6
Morning Game Drive and Flight to Arusha

Depending on the scheduled flight time, return to camp for breakfast or continue with a picnic meal.

Transfer to the nearest operational airstrip and board a scheduled light-aircraft flight to Arusha.

The flight provides aerial views of the Serengeti plains, the Ngorongoro Highlands and the landscapes of Northern Tanzania.
